This paper touches upon a variety of subjects and is oriented towards parents who want to help teach their children critical thinking skills as well as adults who want to foster a return to those educational standards whose primary function was to teach students how to think critically about the world around them. Because the subject of military science is primarily based upon the interpretation of factual data, it is a subject that is perfectly positioned to play an important role in promoting such an effort.
As a senior software engineer as well as a military historian I have often indulged in the study of military history, its realistic re-enactment through the use of commercially available military simulations, and the development of my own simulation design. As a result, from endeavoring with these areas of study, I have been able to experience not only the enjoyment of such technology but an appreciation of the benefits to many who would like more thoughtful activities than the plethora of mindless video games that are now not only very popular with gamers but dominate the mass market for such technological, recreational activities.
Most video games today are actually quite detrimental to one’s health and increasingly so as we go down to the younger generations in which many appear to be addicted to such sedentary offerings. If one were to take the time to research the growing number of studies being done in the analysis of this activity it would be found that all such studies have concluded, even with the most limited data, that participation in such gaming has been found to cause detrimental, long term effects for those engaged in long hours of such activity.
Most adults, especially those who are working full-time, have constraints on their time disallowing the amount of participation they would like to have with their favorite games while those with more flexible schedules or are retired appear to have enough self-control to limit such activity. Nonetheless, the younger generations who are enamored with their smart-devices appear to delve into such technical madness with abandon. This is why such mass marketed, online games as World of War Planes\Tanks\Ships and others have a continuous online activity of tens of thousands at a time across the globe. The Battlefield franchise is probably the most popular land-based, online game in the world, which rivals the likes of the original Doom series if one were to compare the two from a period-based analysis.
